'Mountaintop' plays to larger Broadway crowd
"The Mountaintop" has begun a potential ascent to box office heights, climbing steadily in a frame when most of the Main Stem remained flat. The Angela Bassett-Samuel L. Jackson starrer, which opened Oct. 13 to a mixed bag of reviews, climbed by about $130,000 to $789,727 in Week 21 (Oct. 17-23), playing to about 94% of capacity. Among plays, that puts "Mountaintop" second only to "War Horse" ($985,848). Several of the Rialto's previewing plays also posted rises, although most of those boosts could be attributed to the fact that those plays increased the number of performances they played to the standard eight. The majority of Broadway productions barely budged, with most sales fluctuations unremarkable, and a few close to imperceptible. Cume rose a slight $200,000 to $21.5 million for the 26 shows on the boards. Attendance stepped up slightly to 232,997, or 88%, well ahead of the 79% logged during the same frame last year. The 19 musicals grossed $17,744,606 for 82.4% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 187,059 and an average paid admission of $94.86.The seven plays grossed $3,783,343 for 17.6% of the Broadway total, with attendance of 45,938 and an average paid admission of $82.36. It was very surreal. We [originally] got rated R. They re-cut it, she explained of the movie, which also stars boyfriend Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. As for filming the movies pivotal wedding scene between Bella and Edward, the actress told the mag that it was top secret affair. 5 LGBT Documentaries to Watch After You Come Out
In continuation of Movieline’s LGBT History Month commemoration, we’re racking up five amazing LGBT documentaries that newly out people of all ages, genders, socioeconomic statuses should see. The short list encompasses political, religious and cultural interpretations of homosexuality, and all are must-see movies featuring proud, self-possessed queers. Let’s review the LGBT documentary past, from rallies to realness. Before Stonewall: The Making of a Gay and Lesbian Community (1984) Greta Schilling’s powerful doc investigates the LGBT world leading up to the revolutionary riot between gay patrons of the Stonewall Inn and police offers in charge of persecuting sexual minorities. Amazing interview subjects abound, and plenty of fascinating subjects are bandied. Hope you’re in no mood to enjoy Ronald Reagan. Eventually, the film won Emmy Awards for Best Historical/Cultural Program and Best Research in 1987. Best moment: One lesbian activist, who frequented Harlem dance balls in the ’20s, opines, “I do more bothering now with straight people than I ever did in my life.” The Times of Harvey Milk (1984) As Harvey Fierstein’s opening narration explains, Harvey Milk was much more than an openly gay official on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors; he was a charismatic, funny, and perceptive politician whose ambition and vision far outlasted his tragically short life. The unbelievable story of Milk’s beginnings, rise and eventual assassination alongside Mayor George Moscone at the hands of fellow supervisor Dan White is just as searing today. The definitive LGBT documentary won a much-deserved Academy Award for Best Documentary. You won’t believe it took 30 years after Milk’s death for Gus Van Sant’s 2008 biopic to happen. Best moment: After Milk and Moscone’s deaths, the candle-lit vigil through the streets of San Francisco’s Castro district is almost unbearably moving. Paris is Burning (1990) Jennie Livingston’s unmatched documentary about drag queens in NY City who perform in voguing balls is just as fun, honest and devastating as it was all those years ago. You fall in love with the drag performers — especially Dorian Corey and Pepper LaBeija — and you’re left speechless when you learn the fate of meek, delicate queen Venus Xtravaganza. You’ll also never hear a more loving discussion of Dynasty characters. Best moment: All the drag ball terms the movie defines, including “voguing,” “realness” and “house mother,” not to mention the salty commentary from the drag ball hosts. The Celluloid Closet (1995) Sixteen years after its premiere, The Celluloid Closet’s chronological investigation of gay portrayals (and lack thereof) on the silver screen is a startling view. If the stock characters like the “sissies” of early film — flailing types designed to make other characters look manlier and cooler — don’t intrigue you, you’ll probably still love all the gay innuendos in Hitchcock classics. Plus, Lily Tomlin narrates. Best moment: Gore Vidal explains the gay subtext in his screenplay for Ben-Hur. For the Bible Tells Me So (2007) This fine documentary visits with five religious families coping with the coming-out of a gay family member. Ultimately, it’s a pretty family-positive movie, but it spares no detail when discussing the ramifications of blind faith on LGBT youth. Best moment: Interviews with Chrissy Gephardt, the lesbian daughter of former House Majority/Minority Leader Dick Gephardt — and a helpful skewering of Leviticus.

Glam Slam: Styled By J. Crew
First Published: October 13, 2011 1:51 PM EDT Credit: Access Hollywood LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Ryan Patterson with Max at J.CrewCheck me out! There I am getting the personal J. Crew touch from my go-to guy Max at a shopping party in honor of the brands new head of womens design Tom Mora. Tom and I chatted about all things fashionhe couldnt be a nicer, sweeter guy! The store was full of Crew-clad shoppers- many of them mixing prints, going for lots of jewelry and giving the J. Crew look their own quirky spin. Loads of good people watchingI felt like I had stepped into a catalog shoot for the brand! Thats when I decided to put Max up to a style challenge! (Thats Max in the photo above giving me the VIP treatment!) The challenge? Take my own outfit (see before photo) and transform my blank canvas of black top and royal blue jeans into J. Crews signature chic style. Mission accepted! First, I tried on a sleek leopard fedora, which I absolutely loved, but it was too big for my head. Max then had me try on a couple of jackets until we decided on this striking heather bright berry Hacking jacket in double-serge wool, which is inspired by traditional British riding jackets. ($250) Honestly, I would have never even looked twice at this jacket, but I loved the color so much paired with my bright blue jeans, that I ended up buying it! Next, Max put me in some amazing shoesthe Silvia snakeskin pumps, which are $425. These shoes are beyond fabulous, but the heels are too high for meluckily they come in a more wallet friendly flat version as well ($198), which is far more practical for my everyday life. Then it was time for accessories. The blue bangle Max picked was LuLu Frost for J. Crew priced at $68. I tried on a couple of necklaces, but we went with the understated mini pebble necklace in Abyss Blue priced at $32. Both pulled out the color of my jeans, tying everything together. Its great that we mixed high and low price points, Max said. I am such a control freak. I wasnt sure how I would feel about someone else picking out my clothes. Its kind of nice not to have to think about what you are wearing, but still look fashionable down to the slightest detail. I loved the outfit and enjoyed the whole experience. maybe a little too much! I could definitely get used to this! LOL! Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. Live+7 Ratings For Premiere Week: Modern Family, Supernatural & CBS Lead Gains
The Live+7 ratings for premiere week were released today, and they confirm what we already know: that people are time-shifting their TV viewing more than ever. For instance, an unprecedented three programs added at least 4 million viewers between Live+Same Day and Live+7, led by ABC’s Modern Family, which added 4.7 million and 4.6 million viewers, respectively, to the tally of its two-episode season premiere. CBS’ Two And A Half Men followed with 4.1 million. Modern Family was the champ in net gain both in total viewers and adults 18-49 (a 2.4 demo rating lift), where it also was followed by Two And A Half Men (2.3). The CW’s Supernatural topped the chart of the shows with the largest percentage gain with 63%, followed by CW’s America’s Next Top Model (57%) and Fox’s Fringe (53%). NBC’s struggling Harry’s Law got a much needed boost, up 42% in the demo, while the 38% lift for NBC’s canceled The Playboy Club came too late. The CW, whose target demo is on average the most digitally savvy, dominated the top of the percentage-gain rankings with six of the top 10 shows. That translated into a big lift for the CW in the network standings for premiere week, doubling the closest network in percentage gains. Among the Big 4, CBS posted the largest net and percentage gain in both 18-49 and total viewers. Nancy Shevell's Wedding Dress Designed by Paul McCartney's Daughter Stella McCartney
Getty Images When Heather Mills married Paul McCartney in 2002, his daughter Stella McCartney -- who reportedly loathed her step mum-to-be -- would not even speak to her. Mill's dress -- reputed to be her design -- was made by Caroline Eavis and Annie Brown, who later accused her of not giving them enough publicity for the free gown.our editor recommendsSir Paul McCartney Marries Nancy Shevell in LondonWill Paul McCartney's Bride Marry in Stella McCartney's Dress? But Stella McCartney must like her dad's new love because she designed Nancy Shevell's wedding dress; a classic sleek white long sleeved frock with white (vegan) open toe heels. The couple tied the knot Sunday (Oct 9) at Old Marylebone Hall in London, where McCartney wed his first wife, Linda McCartney, in 1969. McCartney's designing daughter Stella also made his navy blue suit. And a smiling Shevell, 51, and McCartney, 69, were seen smiling in the front row at her Spring 2012 fashion show in Paris last week. McCartney's youngest daughter Beatrice McCartney, 7 - from his second marriage to Mills - was their flower girl. It's probably safe to say that Stella McCartney made her dress as well. Or did Heather make that costume call? We may never know. Guests at the intimate ceremony also included fellow Beatle Ringo Starr and wife, Barbara Bach; Olivia Harrison, widow of George Harrison; and Barbra Walters, who is Shevell's cousin and acted as a matchmaker for the couple. Wait, no Yoko Ono? BTW, Shevell was previous married to attorney and one-time NY Senate candidate Bruce Blakeman. From a lawyer to a Beatle. That's what we called marrying up. Way up. What do you think of Nancy Shevell's dress? Tell us in the comments! Paul McCartney Stella McCartney Heather Mills
